It's Meet Day!! (Wednesday June 5th)
Hey, Hey, Hurricanes, Looks like we might be bringing the storm with us to the meet tonight!!
Since this is the first meet for a lot of families and I heard a bunch of questions at this morning’s practice, I figured I’d take a moment to send out some info. If you are a seasoned swim family, feel free to skip this email, unless you like the idea of a “quick review just in case”.
I just spent a bit of time creating a FAQ page on our website for meets. If you have questions about what's going to happen tonight, it's worth the time it will take you to read it. There's some pretty important info on there that will have you feeling like a veteran swim parent in no time at all.
The following topics are covered (a few highlights included)
What if something happens and we can’t go? If this happens, please notify the coach immediately so he is aware your swimmer(s) will not be there and can fill any relays they may be in. Please also email the Volunteer Coordinator and let them know so your spot can be filled. Contact info can be found on the website: Contact Us
What should we bring?
What do we do when we get there?
- Once you have arrived at the pool and set up your area, please look for Emily Hall (our volunteer coordinator). She tries to place herself somewhere near the entrance to the pool, so she is easy to find. Both first AND second half volunteers should check-in when arriving at the pool. Do not wait. You will get a name tag, and instructions for your job. Feel free to ask any questions you have.
These meets seem like they are right at dinner time. Am I going to be hangry?
How do I know what events my kid is swimming?
Wait, what’s an event? What’s a heat? What’s Clerk of the Course? What do all these numbers mean?
What about relays? I think my swimmer is in a relay?
How can I help be sure my kids get where they need to be?
How do I know how fast my kids swam?
What if my swimmer decides not to swim an event?
What if my swimmer misses an event?
What if my swimmer disqualifies?
What if it rains?
- DOWNLOAD THE SWIMTOPIA MOBILE APP AND TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS. We use the app to send out alerts keeping the team up to date on weather delays. If you do not have the app, you will get an email. If you have the app, but turn your notifications off, you may not get anything. We know it’s like a reflex to just download an app and turn off all notifications, but this is one App you’re going to want to be sure you leave them on.
How long will a meet last?
I keep hearing about the "Score". These meets are scored?
If there is a “score”, are there winners and awards?
See you soon at the pool.
