RSL Finals
Important Information About Division Finals
Division Finals is very different from our regular dual meets. The RSL has strict eligibility, entry, and seeding requirements, and the number of swimmers we may enter in each event is limited. As a result, not every available swimmer will necessarily be selected to swim at Finals.
To be considered for the Finals lineup, your swimmer must:
- Have competed in at least two dual meets this season.
- Have an official time from this season for any individual event they are entered in.
- Be marked as attending before the RSVP deadline.
Please RSVP by the posted deadline—even if you are unsure whether your swimmer will be selected. Late responses cannot be accommodated once the coaches begin building the lineup. If your swimmer cannot attend, please mark them as not attending so the coaches have accurate information.
For this meet, the coaches’ responsibility is to create the lineup that gives our team the best opportunity to score points and compete for the Division Championship. This means your swimmer may be assigned fewer events than usual, may be entered in events that are not their favorites, or may not be entered in the meet.
However, please do not assume that your swimmer will not be selected simply because they are not one of the fastest swimmers on the team. Finals events are divided into A, B, and—depending on the number of teams in our division—C time-standard groups. Each group scores the same number of points, so swimmers throughout the lineup may have an important opportunity to contribute to the team’s score.
If your swimmer is available, please RSVP yes and allow the coaches to determine the strongest possible lineup. An RSVP of “attending” tells the coaches that your swimmer is available for consideration; it does not guarantee that the swimmer will be entered in the meet or in a particular event.
We understand that Finals selections can sometimes be disappointing or confusing. Every swimmer is an important part of our team, and lineup decisions are based solely on the RSL Finals rules and the coaches’ goal of maximizing the team’s overall score.
