Meet info and much more!
First off, HAPPY JUNETEENTH to all of our swim families!! Living in this part of the country, I didn't know much (or anything) about Juneteenth until recent years, but I'm learning every day about those pieces of our collective history that haven't always made it into the history books. In observance of Juneteenth, practice is cancelled on Friday, June 21st. Please enjoy the three-day weekend!
VOLUNTEERS
Be sure to closely check the arrival times if you are working set-up or first shift concessions at today's meet. We need you there by 4pm!!
ALL volunteers, first and second shift, need to check in with me at the beginning of the meet.
Clean up crew - you will be given a vest, so that you are easily identifiable in the dark at the end of the meet. I will meet with the four of you and walk you through closing down the pool. Expect to be there until at least 10:30pm.
TIPS TO BEAT THE HEAT
It's gonna be a hot one today, so here are some ways you and your swimmer can stay cool:
- set up a tent outside of the pool are - the grass is much cooler than the concrete
- be sure your swimmer removes their swim cap between events - swim caps capture so much heat!
- wear open-toed shoes or go barefoot
- bring chairs for yourself and your swimmer(s), so everyone can rest, as needed
- bring a cooler with ice or ice packs, wet towels in Ziploc bags, portable fans, etc. Cold watermelon makes a great, cooling, hydrating snack.
- water, water, water - we will have water bottles for sale, but we also have a great water fountain that can be used to fill reusable water bottles for free!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
And lastly, as Coach Samuel said, "Naps are great." He is so wise. I hope everyone gets some downtime today so we are PUMPED UP for a great meet tonight!
Go HOST!
Emily
