Let's talk LAP-A-PALOOZA!
Hopefully, you have started to contact your close friends and family to sponsor you during the lap-a-palooza. This is the most important part of the event as it is how each swimmer personally contributes to the scholarship fund! The team goal this year is to raise $2,500 for our scholarship fund. Plus, this keeps them pushing to get those laps in and be proud of how many they can do when it comes to an end! Bring your sponsor sheet to the event so the board can verify and write your official lap count!
A swimmer can arrive at any time after 8AM to begin their laps. Before you jump in, talk to the coach at the end of the lane so they know to begin counting your laps on their sheet! Swimming for laps will end around 9:45AM, possibly earlier, so plan accordingly. Coaches will turn in the sheets at the end of lap swimming to be counted and raffle tickets will be prepared.
At around 9:45AM, while the laps are being counted, we will have a kids vs. coaches/adults relay race! Adults, you do not have to know a stroke, you just have to swim across the pool in any style you want! This is your chance to show your kiddo how fun and sporty you are (or maybe a chance to see how fast your kiddo has gotten and give them the dinner table bragging rights they've always wanted!) by racing them or a teammate across the pool! Don't worry - the adult team always wins, but we do need you to volunteer to hop in the pool in order to keep this tradition going and to keep the coaches from having to swim all of those laps alone!
There will be a light spread of breakfast type foods for swimmers to enjoy while supplies last from 8:30-10. If non-swimming siblings or friends are attending with you, please explain to them beforehand that the snacks are there for the swimmers only & to help them keep up their energy! Drinks will not be provided, but the water fountain is inside and available just in case you forget a beverage. Again, this is not a full breakfast, only a light snack!
There are 2 types of raffles happening that morning. 1. for swimmers only, free, and based on the number of laps swum that morning. 2. not free, and will need cash in order to enter for a chance to win the prize.
- There will be new adult goggles, kid goggles, beach balls, Monster Mini Golf round, & more for lap prizes. Swimmers will have a chance to get a lap-based prize by swimming. Each 25 laps is 1 ticket entered into the raffle. No money necessary or accepted for these prizes. Once a swimmer's name has been called for a prize, they will not be called again to give as many swimmers an opportunity to win. But the more laps, the more tickets, the higher the chance of getting 1st pick of the prizes! EVERY swimmer will get a free slice of pizza card to Manhattan Pizza, so every swimmer will walk away with something for participating.
- Cash Raffle is sperate and will be $1 per ticket or $5 for 6 tickets.
